Overcoming Overwhelm

In moments of overwhelm and stress, a feeling of chaos, or a mind that is loud and endlessly running….typically when we feel there is so much to be done and never enough time to do it all….this is when I completely stop and do nothing.

I get still.
Mentally and Physically.

I have come to understand the actions we take are either out of fear or out of love. And what we put out, is what we get back.

In these moments of overwhelm we are acting out of fear.
Fear of a lack of time. Fear of disappointing. Fear of failure.

The only way to break the cycle is to be still and wait until you are in a place of peace.

I do this in a few different ways.
Yoga

Cooking

Reading

Gardening

Meditation

Cleaning / Decluttering
Nature / Hike by myself

Listening to Spiritual Teachers

Whatever it looks like for you, however you can, get yourself back to a state of calm and peace – everything else can wait. And should wait. Your best work does not come from a place of fear, it comes from a place of love.

I hope the next time you feel overwhelmed you have the strength to be still. To go inside yourself and find your clarity before you continue on.

By doing this you will come to find this time of stillness will be followed by a time of intense progress. Everything is balanced. With stillness comes action. Which brings aligbed action. And from aligned action we step into the flow state of peaceful, streamlined productivity.

All my best,
Jody

Delaying Happiness

At what point did we decide we had to wait to be happy. At what point did we decide we have to earn happiness. And in order to be happy, we had to go do something first, or have to achieve something, that we have to accomplish something that will make us feel worthy enough of feeling happy. Man do I wish I was alive at the moment somebody had this thought so I could say wait a minute NO.

We are worthy now.

We are enough now.

That was our birthright that got taken from us.

You do not need to do anything, or prove to anyone, that you are worthy enough to have what it is that you want that makes you happy.

We got so caught up in the idea that we have to work first and play later. We spend our days doing what we think we have to do, dragging ourselves through the day waiting for the moment we can go have fun, and then when we get to this moment we have set aside for fun, we are so exhausted we collapse.

Always doing what we think we should be doing.

Well here’s your wake up call, your permission slip, and guidance.

DO WHAT BRINGS YOU JOY.

GET CLEAR ON YOUR IDEAL LIFE.

WRITE IT DOWN.

PRINT OUT PICTURES OF IT. LOOK AT THEM EVERYDAY.

THEN GO HAVE FUN.

( Intertwined with being responsible ~ making money, paying bills, being respectful etc )

Instead of acting through thoughts of what you think you should be doing, you will find you start acting based off of feelings, and impulses.

This is intuition. Guidance. Guiding you towards what you just asked for. ( your ideal life )

and then notice . . .

suddenly, somehow magically, (through the universal laws) the exact opportunities that bring you the ideal life you are wanting, start showing up.

Take Them.

We don’t need to delay happiness. We just got stuck in an awful cycle of doing that for so long we don’t know anything other than that.

but we are starting to wake up again. THANK YOU UNIVERSE.

Our system as been so skewed for too long.

So remember –

You are worthy.

You are enough.

So what’s next for you?

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

And hopefully not to confuse you ~ but some delayed happiness is good as well. Anticipation is a nice way to build up positive energys like excitement.

Surrender – Release – Let Go

Surrender into the feeling that everything happens just as it is supposed to.

Walk tall into the moments of pain, hurt, and uncertainty.
See them as perfect lessons, perfect stepping stones to get you where you want to go.

A common theme in my life the past couple weeks has been to surrender into these moments. To become less rigid and tense and trust the process.

It came up in a yoga class.

For those of you familiar with yoga – holding a position for a long period of time can bring about some serious mind chatter . . . ‘how much longer do I have to hold this, this hurts, I can’t do this.’ Well, this is one way to experience it. However, when you surrender into the moment instead, into the stretch and uncomfortable feeling you’ll find a state of pure bliss.

Not just in yoga though. Anywhere.

When something is uncomfortable or unfamiliar, surrender into that feeling and see it as a blessing.
When I say surrender, for me that looks like and feels like an expansion of my mind. I am opening it up and allowing for a new something to take its place. ( for new space to be created, a new pathway to form )

It brings a whole different perspective to struggle and pain.

And a whole new form of gratitude and peace.

Instead of seeing these moments as unwanted, painful, or steps back, they could actually be the perfect preparation for a giant leap forward if we allow them to be – by simply surrendering.
I do think it is also important to keep your well-earned and sturdy roots in place during this process as well. It is not always about letting go of everything you know. We got this far for a reason and we’ve been through enough lessons to know what we want to stand for and what we value.  Be open to other opinions about your sturdy roots, you never know you might need to upgrade them yourself at some point, but remember why you grew them in the first place as well.

Routine

Routine is so incredibly difficult for me. The majority of my life I have dreaded having a routine. It feels so constrictive, unfreeing, and too much in a box when my soul likes to color outside of the lines.

The thoughts of having to do the same things day after day just has this boring connotation to it. Why would I want to do the same thing day in and day out? This repetitive motion makes me think of a conveyor belt ~ producing exactly the same things over and over.

How is that fun? How is that spontaneous? How does that fit into my desired box of wild and free?

I still have all of these questions and they plague me every day.

I find myself fully resisting routines with a powerful repulsive energy.

Finding myself desperately trying to figure out how to live in this world and provide for myself in a way that allows me to be free.

However it isn’t exactly working for me. And the other day I had a new question come to mind.

What would it look and feel like if the routines I had where all things I thoroughly loved and enjoyed? Mind flip. And heres another one ~ What if I already am doing all the things I love ( or a good amount of the things I love, but havent fully realized it and allowed myself to enjoy them? )

Mind shattered.

I currently fall somewhere inbetween. I’m doing a lot of the things I love yet haven’t been able to fully enjoy them yet for whatever reason. I love the things that I am doing, but other areas of my life are currently off balance or unknown which breeds anxiety in my mind.

I also have the tendency to do ALL the things I love, and ALL at the same time. I have a long list of things I love and it spreads my energy everywhere, and thin.

Once upon a time I had a decent routine filled with things I loved. That routine also shifted from time to time as my own desires shifted along with those around me.

Household Routines, Work Routines, Eating Routines, Friendship Routines.

These are the important ones as far as I can currently tell. Build routine here. And in the space of these routines, there’s freedom to play.

It’s from routine that we gain freedom.

Zest for LIFE

I had lost my zest for living. I didn’t fully even realize it for awhile, and then it took me some time to get centered enough to find my way through.

It wasn’t until not too long ago I was laying in bed pondering and released I hadn’t had anything I had been truly excited for or fully looking forward to in a long time. It might have looked that way from the outside, but I didn’t feel it on the inside. I was merely shooting for what was right in front of me and trying to make this living in the moment thing work without really having anything I was working towards.

I so badly wanted to have the go with the flow mentality and just let life take me where it did. And well, I tried that for awhile. And darn it did take me places that’s for sure. But I wasn’t able to feel stable and steady anywhere I went or with anything I did. I met some cool people and I did some cool things, which one day I just might go back and experience again, however Ill wait until I have more of a grounding position to start from.

I learned I was able to cultivate and maintain that free flowing mentality much easier when I had something that excited me and pins on my map for future adventures to look forward to.

Once again ~ that beautiful balance between structure / stability and freedom.

In moments where we feel lost; where there’s more uncertain things in our world than certain. Where planning out our days seems awful, and making plans with others feels like too much of a tie down ~ just remember. We live in a beautiful world of equal opposites. Structure means freedom. and Freedom comes from structure. We release that when we find structure in doing the things that excite us and to have something amazing and fun to look forward to.

We are the ones that put the zest in life. And once we do, life will add some of its own zest in for us as well too.

Handling Hard Days

Hard Days – We all Have Them.

But our perception of them is what determines whether we call it a hard/bad day or a Day of Growth.

In order to move forward and progress we have to be willing to be completely present and aware in the moments that really count. The moments of struggle, the moments of anger, sorrow, hurt, disappointment etc.

These moments are the tug, the pull, the stretch into something new. These are the signs that what you are after is wanting you, but in order for it to become your reality you have to change your current understanding and view yet another perspective.

What we want, wants us.
In order to get something different, we have to become something different.

Notice yourself the next time you get angry, hurt, or upset. And when you notice this, stop and step back.  Relax into the moment and see it as an opportunity for massive growth.

Examine the root of what triggered your reaction.

These emotions are giant signs that there is an off balance and growth is trying to take place.
This is your chance to aim it in the direction you want it to go.

Decide what it is you are wanting and how it is different from what you are currently getting.

We are not our emotions. We witness our emotions flooding through our bodies. We have the ability to detach from them and watch them run their course and stop and shift them as we choose to further our own development and evolution.

Every tug and pull is a little sign trying to keep you on track.

If you are feeling stuck, drained, uninspired, or unmotivated, see it as a blessing! This is the perfect time to do some serious manifesting. Use this down/negative energy to fuel yourself. This is where you can get serious and determined about what you want. This is where we can really build up our motivational energy and say to ourselves this is not what I want, I want this instead, and then go at it at full force! So much momentum can be gained here.

Action Steps:

The next time you see yourself in a moment of frustration, anger, or lack of motivation, step back mentally in your mind ( sometimes physically taking a step back works really well too ) and stop what you are doing. Bring awareness to what feeling/s you have in your body, work on finding what brought that feeling into being, and then push through/break through/ transcend/ surrender/ leg go/ release it into a better feeling that you are wanting. You’ll feel elevated and like a weight has lifted when you do this.

Find humor in your crazy emotions. Again, we are not our emotions, we are the ones witnessing them. Sometimes our emotions are completely crazy and make no sense. Be willing to laugh and at them. It lightens the moment and dramatically helps you separate your body and headspace from the negative energy that arises from it. A lot of the time we are actually picking up and absorbing the emotions/energies from people around us and the environments we are in.

Be curious about your emotions. Honor them, respect them, and you’ll gain an understanding of them. It will help in your own development and even help you in understanding what others around you are going through and give you the ability to help them with what they are going through as well.

16 Benefits of Meditation

To start – What is Meditation and how do we do it?

A lot of us actually already do it. We just didn’t bother giving it a name, because it was just something that happened ( like breathing or our heart beating. It just happens without effort or very little )

Meditation is simply being conscious and aware of our thoughts and letting them pass through our mind like clouds in the sky without any attachment to them.

At some points this is easy. At other times our minds are filled with so much noise that momentum is impossible to stop until we physically remove ourselves from any outward chaos and spend some time alone in nature. ( at least that’s what I do )

The Goal of Meditation

To return ourselves back to a state of presence. To be back fully in the present moment.

A lot of the time our thoughts are anchored in the past or future. But in reality, all there ever is, is the now. The present moment.

If you are completely new to this concept and have yet to feel you have control over your thoughts – the best way to begin is by simply noticing that we are breathing. Notice the air going through your nose on an inhale, your lungs and belly expanding outward, feel free to hold your breathe in for a second or two if that feels good, and then notice the warmer air passing through your nose on the exhale and your belly softening as the air is moved out of your body.

A lot of us breathe into our chests/rib cage. This is fine, but it actually puts strain on our shoulders and neck. If you notice this is how youre breathing, play around with expanding your belly out on the inhale, instead of your chest.

Sit tall with a straight spine as much as possible.

The goal here is to shift the focus. Instead of being stuck in our head with our thoughts, we put our focus and attention on a different part of our body.

We are separate from our thoughts. So when you notice a thought arise in your mind, simply acknowledge it, and then allow your mind to move on to either the next thought or maybe a space of stillness.

There really isn’t a right or wrong way to do this. At first it might seem incredibly difficult, especially later in the day. Our minds are full of information, conversations, words, ideas, problems etc.

I find it easier first thing in the morning when my mind is still relatively clear, or if I wake with a racing mind, getting myself outside into nature away from traffic, people, and all responsibilities before I do anything else.

Starting the day with a clear mind, and a feeling of control and awareness of our thoughts makes for an easier, more grounded, peaceful, and more enjoyable day.

Its when we feel a lack of control of our thoughts that we feel a lack of control over everything else in our reality.

So simply tuning in for even just a few minutes and feeling present and in your body first thing, makes a world of difference.

Mentally Strong

What does that mean?

I have a reoccurring theme in my life. It is the desire to be incredibly mentally strong.
Ever since I can remember I have had such an intense knowing that I wanted to be insanely mentally strong.

I’m not sure why.
It stems from that gut feeling and that unexplained deep knowing that I am meant to be this way.

My life has very much so delivered.
And the more I learn and grow the more I understand why it has delivered in such a strong way.

We are what we think.
We are what our purpose is.
We are what we feel.

Being mentally strong is the backbone to everything I do. It is ingrained in me so deep it feels as if it is apart of every cell of my being.

This type of feeling, this type of desire, this type of want creates an unparalleled pull. An energy so strong it does nothing but attract more of the like right back to me.

Any time we want something in our life, the more intense the desire is, the deeper the knowing is, the more we feel as if we already have it, and the more we can embody the feeling of already having it, the quicker and stronger it will manifest into our reality once we start taking action.

To me, being mentally strong means a few things.
It means stability.
Independence.
The ability to return to a peaceful state of mind even when your outer world is complete chaos.
Its the ability to calm yourself in an incredible intense situation that has your heart racing.
It’s the ability to remember why you are doing something on the days where the pull to return back to an old way is just about stronger than you are.

And that’s how you know you are growing.

When the pull is so strong it taps your outer limit of strength on the shoulder forcing you to either give in, or stretch that strength and little farther than you ever have before.

Becoming mentally strong means your limit is constantly tested;
your hard days are a little harder, your lows a little lower…
enabling you to stretch and strengthen it a little more every time.

But it means those good days are even better.

I will be forever grateful for this gut desire of being mentally strong.

I feel it enables me to help those around me.
To help find their peace.
Their clarity.
And to help them out of their lows.
To show them it’s a process, it’s a learning, it’s a test to see how strong you’re choosing to be.

Everything is balanced.
There is an equal opposite to all.

This testing of strength can bring out the worst.

But it can also give life to many extraordinary things.

The next time you’re struggling and thinking everything is so wrong….
just remember this is a showing of your strength and a test to see how strong you really want to be.

Choose to take back your control and decide your own fate.

I hope this finds you on a day when you’re needing a reminder that you are capable. That you are worthy and deserving of being in a more peaceful place.

And please remember you are not alone on this journey.

If you ever decide you would like a little guidance I am one message away.

All my best,
Jody

Don’t Think – F E E L

Always be coming from a place of giving and love.

Our bodies are built on a foundation of Love, Joy, and Compassion. If our actions are not coming from matching intentions, what we try and create will inevitably crumble.

Nature knows what is best and it will consistently return to it’s delicate balance no matter what disrupts it – eliminating that which tried to cause it harm.

This quote has been a mantra of mine for awhile now.

It brings me back into balance and directs me to the people and places that feel like home.

Overthinking – we all do it.

But it creates chaos in our minds and bodies, and then translates out into our lives.

When we are able to master our minds . . . and let the thoughts begin to subside . . . and then learn to watch them from the backseat . . . life suddenly just flows effortlessly. As if we are being guided to exactly what we intuitively desire.

We change our vibration back into a state of abundance and joy.

Never stop learning and exploring your curiosities.

Pay attention to what life keeps putting in front of you.

It’s trying to guide you.

“Don’t think. Just Feel. And if it feels like home, follow its path ”

Calming Our Minds – Bringing Positivity into O u r Lives

6 Tips

You can do right now to shift your vibration back into alignment.

I do these all the time when life gets a little crazy.  They keep me balanced, alert and able to make good decisions when they really count.

May they be just as transformative for you as they have been for me

1. Nothing needs your immediate attention right now.

Yes there may be an inbox full of emails, more DMs than you can keep track of, and dishes in the sink . . . but they aren’t going anywhere.

Just you, taking a much needed minute for you.

Because you deserve it.

2.  Become Present in the Current Moment.

Feel your feet on the floor or feel your weight in the chair.  Become grounded to the earth. Let it support you.

3. Create a feeling of Space in your mind.

Allow it to open and be clear. Expand your awareness outward. Breath deep and imagine sending air to your brain. May sound weird! but it works!!

4. Your thoughts are separate from Y o u.

We are souls that can take a backseat to our overactive minds. View your thoughts like a movie you aren’t really interested in. They can be there in the background, but you don’t actually have to engage with them.

Choose the ones you want to listen to and ignore the ones you don’t.

Most are unnecessary and just background noise.

5. Focus on your Breathing.

Notice how the air is cool on the inhale, and slightly warmer on the exhale. Notice the rise and fall of your chest/belly. Imagine a flow of energy moving through your body and life flourishing throughout your cells.

6. Think of 3 things you are G r a t e f u l for.

Really grateful for.

And feel the loving and comforting feeling flood your body when thinking about them.

Enjoy this time of peace. You deserve it. After all, being peaceful and full of joy is our birthright.

You have the ability to return back to this space at any time you need to.
